Behind the Surface

About this work

In this painting, I present an abstract, intriguing scene of two human figures whose presence is suggested rather than explicitly depicted. Dark handprints and shadow-like forms seem to press against a transparent, almost glass-like layer. Vertical bands of pink, purple, green, blue and yellow evoke water, steam and light flowing along wet walls. They strengthen the sense of isolation and intimacy, as though the space were narrow and enclosed.
