The face does not emerge from sharp contours, but from a layered grid of coloured planes and a delicate, organic network that lies across the surface like a fragile skin. The mosaic-like composition suggests the face: the eyes, nose and mouth are only partly recognisable and seem to appear and disappear within the structure.
