About this work

MikoArt-Liquid Gloss®-07FP/Freddie Mercury-120x120cm

In this painting I present an iconic, regal portrait of Freddie Mercury, the legendary rock singer of Queen, executed in a pronouncedly geometric, origami-like style. The face is built up from facets that break light and shadow, giving the portrait a sculptural yet at the same time vivid appearance. The sharp lines contrast with the soft, almost dreamlike atmosphere of the composition. He wears an ornate gold crown, a symbol of royal status, power and artistic grandeur. This refers not so much to political power as to musical sovereignty: an artist who transcends his genre and has been crowned an icon by his audience. The gold chain and the elegant suit reinforce this majestic presence.

Around his head float multicoloured butterflies, moving through the space in rainbow colours. They symbolise freedom, transformation and creativity, but also vulnerability and transience. The butterflies form a dynamic halo around the portrait, giving the work a poetic, almost mythical quality. The background consists of radial bands of colour that explode outwards from the head, as if visualising music, energy and emotion. The colours — gold, purple, blue, red and green — speak of expression, diversity and theatrical power.

The whole is framed by a classical, baroque gold frame that contrasts with the modern, abstract imagery within. This tension between the classical and the contemporary underlines the central theme of the work: timeless grandeur captured in a modern artistic form. His life was made successful by artistic freedom, courage and the breaking of conventions, both musically and personally. Freddie Mercury dared to be grand, vulnerable and extravagant, and inspired millions of people worldwide. Despite his early death in 1991 his legacy lives on: as a symbol of self-expression, creative daring and pure, challenging genius. The painting radiates admiration, homage and emotional intensity — a visual monument to an artist who stands for freedom, daring and boundless artistic and musical expression.

The artworks are produced using the most modern techniques and the finest quality materials. The artwork is printed on high-grade Fuji Crystal DP II Ultra HD photographic paper, permanently bonded to a 4 mm thick Alu-dibond support and protected with a 3 mm layer of high-quality Liquid Gloss® epoxy resin. This finish gives the artwork not only an intense colour and three-dimensional presence but also a refined, luxurious appearance. It also guarantees many years of durability and resistance to ultraviolet light. Where a frame or border has been applied to the work, it is integrated within the artwork itself. The gold frame or border is integrated within the artwork and is therefore not present as a physical frame.
