Hypnotic Current presents a powerful, hypnotic spiral of colour and movement. From a dark, almost eye-like centre a flowing vortex spirals outwards, consisting of undulating bands that run seamlessly into one another. The colours form a complete spectrum: deep purple and indigo pass into blue and turquoise, then into green, yellow, orange and fiery red, finally returning to warm pinks and purples.
The paint seems liquid, as though the colours had not been painted but melted. The zigzag edges of the bands give the work a pulsing rhythm, so that the gaze remains constantly held. The central point acts as a force of attraction: it invites the viewer to disappear into it, as though the painting were a vortex of light and energy. The atmosphere is intense and almost psychedelic, yet at the same time harmonious. Despite the explosion of colour the composition is in balance; everything turns around the centre; nothing stands still. The painting evokes associations with consciousness, infinity and inner experience — a visual experience that feels more than it explains, and that goes on resonating long after you have turned your gaze away.
