Chequered Abyss presents a powerful optical illusion in which a black-and-white chequerboard pattern is distorted into a deep, turning funnel. The plane seems to break open and to suck the viewer inside. At the centre glows an intense red area that acts as an energetic heart or core and contrasts strongly with the severe black and white around it.
Out of that core rises a spiralling, cone-like structure, likewise built up from the chequerboard motif. This form recalls a turning screw, a vortex or even a DNA-like structure, giving the image a scientific and futuristic charge. The crisp geometry is made dynamic by the rotation and the perspectival distortion, so that movement and depth are suggested.
The whole evokes feelings of tension, concentration and energy: order (the chequerboard) and chaos (the turning and the suction) exist side by side. The painting plays strongly with perception and makes the viewer aware of how quickly fixed forms can change into a hypnotic, almost infinite space.

The artworks are produced with modern techniques and the finest materials. The artwork is printed on high-grade Fuji Crystal DP II Ultra HD photographic paper, permanently bonded to a 4 mm thick Alu-dibond support and protected with a 3 mm layer of high-quality Liquid Gloss® epoxy resin. This finish gives the artwork not only an intense colour and three-dimensional presence but also a refined, luxurious appearance. It also offers lasting durability and resistance to ultraviolet light. A hanging fitting is mounted on the reverse of the Alu-dibond support, so that the artwork can simply be hung straight away.
