About this work

Frozen Eruption presents an explosive, abstract composition recalling a frozen eruption. From a restless midpoint, sharp, jagged forms shoot outwards, as though plates or crystals had burst open under great pressure. The structures appear layered and facetted, with a strong suggestion of depth and movement.

The palette consists mainly of cool tones such as white, silver grey, lilac and blue, alternating with accents of yellow and soft pink. These colour contrasts reinforce the sense of energy and tension. The edges of the forms are irregular and ragged, giving the image a raw, dynamic quality. The whole calls up associations with natural forces such as volcanic activity, the growth of ice or the formation of crystals, but remains entirely abstract. The painting radiates both power and vulnerability: a moment at which something bursts apart while at the same time forming a new, complex structure.
