Miko — Miechel Kockelkoren

Miko is the artistic alias of Dutch digital artist Miechel Kockelkoren, born and raised in Mechelen, in the southern Dutch province of Limburg. Under the name MikoArt, he creates exclusive, unique 1/1 artworks in which digital innovation, graphic precision and meticulous craftsmanship converge.

His work is characterised by a distinctive visual language in which colour, composition, light, structure and depth play a defining role. Abstraction, geometry, figuration, surrealism and industrial influences move freely throughout his oeuvre, creating a diverse body of work that deliberately resists confinement to a single style or artistic movement.

From Traditional Art to Digital Painting
Miechel’s artistic development began long before the computer became his principal creative instrument. He initially worked with traditional techniques including acrylic painting, pen-and-ink drawing and watercolour, focusing primarily on landscapes, half-timbered architecture and characteristic village scenes from South Limburg.

This traditional foundation continues to inform his contemporary practice. His understanding of perspective, balance, colour and composition has its roots in these early years, while digital painting has provided him with an entirely new level of artistic freedom.

His professional career in the graphic arts industry, where he worked as a graphic designer and held various management positions, has also had a profound influence on his artistic signature. Graphic precision, attention to detail and a highly developed sense of visual communication remain clearly recognisable throughout his work.

Since 2012, Miechel has devoted himself to the continued development and exploration of digital painting.

A Continuous Exploration of Creative Possibilities
For Miko, digital technology is not an end in itself, but an artistic medium offering almost limitless possibilities for exploring form, colour, light and space.

His works frequently begin with an entirely blank digital canvas. Without relying on an existing composition, the creative process develops intuitively through designing, drawing, digital painting, experimentation and refinement.

A single painting may consist of dozens of individual digital layers. Transparency, colour fields, lines, light, shadow and textures are carefully constructed and interwoven. This process creates one of the defining characteristics of MikoArt: a distinctive sense of visual depth in which new structures, relationships and details continue to reveal themselves over time.

Experimentation is fundamental to this process. Unexpected visual effects are not necessarily corrected or removed; instead, they may become the catalyst for an entirely new direction within the composition.

It is this continuous exploration of the boundaries of digital creation that gives each artwork its individual identity.

From Digital Original to Physical Art Object
A defining aspect of MikoArt is the transformation of the digital painting into a tangible physical artwork.

Until an artwork is commissioned for production, it exists exclusively as a digital original. Only then does it assume its final physical form.

MikoArt’s original works are produced as exclusive 1/1 artworks on 4 mm AluDibond. The image is created using Fuji Crystal DP II Ultra HD photographic material, permanently mounted onto the aluminium composite panel and individually hand-finished with approximately 3 mm of Liquid Gloss® epoxy resin.

This artisanal finishing process creates exceptional optical depth, brilliance and colour intensity. Light interacts with the high-gloss surface, revealing different nuances depending on the viewer’s position and surrounding environment. The digital painting is thereby transformed into a tangible contemporary art object with a powerful physical presence.

Alongside the original Liquid Gloss® works, selected compositions are available as Certified Art Giclée™ artworks on museum-quality canvas, produced using high-quality Epson UltraChrome® RS pigment technology.

In this way, digital precision and physical materiality become integral parts of a single artistic process.

A Distinctive Visual Universe
For Miko, inspiration has no fixed point of origin.

Architecture, nature, music, travel, social developments, emotions, the digital world, memories, dreams and everyday observations can all provide the initial impulse for a new work. Above all, however, imagination remains his most important source.

The resulting compositions move between recognition and abstraction. Some are strongly geometric and architectural; others are organic, figurative, surreal or intensely expressive in their use of colour.

What unites them is an ongoing search for visual tension and harmony.

A MikoArt artwork therefore rarely presents a fully defined narrative. Instead, it suggests, evokes and leaves space for personal interpretation. What begins in the imagination of the artist acquires new meaning through the individual experience of the viewer.

Exclusivity, Provenance and Authenticity
Exclusivity lies at the heart of MikoArt’s original body of work.

Each original MikoArt artwork is produced as a unique 1/1 piece. No second original or duplicate of the same unique work is produced.

Every original is accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity, bears the artist’s signature on the front and is personally hand-signed and individually numbered on the reverse.

Together, these elements establish and permanently document the artwork’s identity, provenance and authenticity.

International Positioning
The MikoArt portfolio currently comprises more than 250 unique 1/1 artworks, presented to collectors, galleries, art professionals, interior designers and international audiences through professional art platforms, gallery presentations, art fairs and exhibitions.

The artistic value of original MikoArt artworks has been independently assessed by J.A. Akoun France, an internationally established authority in art valuation and market information. A minimum value of €3,250 has been established for the unique 1/1 works. The corresponding Artist Value Certification is supported through Artmajeur in Montpellier, France.
The current selling price of a MikoArt artwork may intentionally be lower than this independent valuation. MikoArt chooses to offer its works directly at its own established selling price. The minimum value of €3,250 therefore serves as an independent reference value and does not automatically correspond to the current selling price.

This international recognition represents another stage in the continuing development of MikoArt as an independent contemporary art practice — one defined by experimentation, exclusivity and the transformation of digital creation into tangible fine art.

Art Beyond the Digital
